66-67's don't have as large a wheelwell as the 68-72's. That being said, you can still easily run a 17x8 front w/4.5-5" backspacing and a rear 17x9.5 w/5.5" backspacing. My guess is you could fit up to a 255/40/17 on the front and definitely a 275/40/17 or 275/50/17 on the rear,,maybe even a 285/40/17.
17's and 18's are pretty much the change as far as rim widths, backspacings, and tire widths.

How about the 66-67 models?

On a 68-72,you can run a 15x10 rear wheel with 5.5-5.75" backspacing and 295/50/15 tire,,a common combination.

I plan on using 15 inch wheels.

It would be easier to help if we knew what diameter wheels you want to use;15--20"?

Hey guys,
I have a 70 SS I am putting together. I want to run the widest tires on the back I possibley can without making the car look silly. I am curious as to what size tires, wheels and backspacing everyone is running.

                                                 Thanks Matt
