My tranny guy told me
that my 4L60 ( 700R4 ) would work OK on my 468 but at 600hp it would granade if
I pushed it a few too many times at a stoplight. My tires weren't sticky
so they took the strain off the tranny and just caught fire a
lot. Had they grabbed, I might have been pulling tranny parts from my
backside. Seems anything after 450 hp gets iffy on a stock or mildly
beefed box. But with 4:10's I did like the lock up overdrive.
Sounded strange but it felt and sounded like a 5 speed automatic.
There are tranny guys like Phoenix or Bow Tie that can build them to
take 600+ for a few thou. or less - no E so no computer. Had I
kept my '68, Santa would have delivered a new box this year ( trade in my 4L60
if it was still in one piece). But alas......

overdrives.
Has anyone bolted on a overdrive unit to a T-400? They seem a little
expensive. Would a 700R stand up to 400 HP+.
Looking for mileage and less rpm's on the motor while cruising.
Thanks
