Iam going to be needing a good repair manual for my 70 chevelle. would yall recomend "chiltons" or something else. iam gonna redo the steering and suspension first. change from drum to disc brakes on the front, i'd also like to raise it. so do i go with a hevier coil spring. if so how do i determine which one. thanks Baltimore, BOB.

 I guess it fit good, I got it for one of my local customers, he never complained so it must have fit good. The parts guy looked it up for me first. The part numbers are off my reciept.
 
 I don't have any part numbers but if you get a good parts guy he can look it up for you. There really isn't much still available from GM though.

Thanks Gene, but I'm confused. How is the fit? How did you know those part numbers? Did you have access to them prior to ordering them from your local dealership or did they look them up for you?
 
I've been looking for some various parts, in my spare time :), and have looked here;
 
 
but have been disappointed with what they have to offer for a 69 SS-396.
 
Do you have a listing of part numbers you could share with us?

I contacted the seller, Kendall Chevrolet, and they told me these were new GM parts. When I asked for the part number, the guy laughed saying I could go into my local dealer and buy the same if he gave that number out.

One area where this is somewhat covered – old part numbers – are some folks (like me) that have a Chevrolet Parts & Accessories catalog for particular years. I worked a Chevrolet parts counter in the early 70s and salvaged most of our old parts catalog when new editions arrived.  It does contain then-current part numbers for 64-(then new) 72 Chevrolets.  Also have a smaller catalog for 46-64 Chevrolets.

 

I also purchased a CD from Detroit Iron with reprints of parts catalog and other ‘generic’ information supposedly for a 1967 Chevelle and it turned out the catalog on the CD is essentially the same one I have in paper format but a couple of months later printing.

 

GM catalogs are out there and readily available.  Just remember that the numbers in the catalogs are numbers you’d get at that point in time.  Many had already changed and many more did change in later years but at least it’s a good starting point.
