i have had a couple of bad experences with it, i had an 87 new yorker i bought, i put in the sea foam (about 1/4 of a can) in the oil, let it idle 10 min then drained and changed the oil and filter, i drove it to work the next day (30 miles) by the time i got to work the oil was all gone and the engine blew!!
i also had a GTO that at one time had a plastic timing gear, i had done the same thing to it (add 1/4 can let idle 10 min drain and repl oil & filter) the previous owner had not cleaned the pieces of the plastic gear out of the oil pan (i found out the hard way) the sea foam must have loosened the stuff up enough to plug the oil screen and took out the engine!!
