My guess would also be what Larry says. I've done two conversions and
found that you need to watch the adjustment of the switch on the brake

Are you sure you are not describing the rear brake lights? Changing from a
auto to a stick meant you changed the brake and clutch pedal. The brake pedal
rear brake lights switch may need adjusted to make the brake lights go
off.
