Hi,
I will be honest and say that while 3.73 are a good compromise in a vehicle that won't see much more than 50 MPH cruising, they totally suck on the highway, especially now that the speeds are about 80 MPH.
I wouldn't say that, I also run 3.73's in my 86 Cutlass with a mildly built 350 in it and I have to say that having those gears on the highway have gotten me out og some interesting situations where acceleration was needed.  The Cutlass turns 3600 RPM's at 80 MPH with the 3.73's and a 26.5" tall tire, no overdrive.  As long as you don't keep the engine cranking over 4000 RPM's for along period of time you'll be fine.  Turning 3500 RPM's won't hurt the engine.
