Another thought about auctions. Mecum is having one in Florida next weekend. He has a bunch of Chevelles, Hemis, and a few retired drag cars. He's even got a pack of MGs. I am anxious to see his results to see if the madness is only a BJ, TV, phenomena. Check Dana Mecum out at http://www.mecumauction.com/ .  I will be searching for results while watching the Rolex 24 Hours on TV and wishing I was in Daytona.

I am amazed at what the cars are bringing now. I agree that some of the BJ thing is egos with too much money competing for a trophy, but, and that is a BIG BUT, it happened too many times on Saturday to be a fluke. Those folks are driving the values up on just about every collector car and insurance is about protecting your investment, (aren't you glad you own a Chevelle). Of course you don't have to insure your car for that much. It is good to have documentation (BJ actual sales) if you do want to insure your car for the max. That's how I use their results. On a side note, it seemed that the Street Rods were down thru Saturday. Anybody else pick up on that or did I miss the $100K + sales?

I tuned in late last night and caught em putin the hammer down on a Red 66 SS for $125,000.  Can anyone give me the details that made this one that special? We use Barrett Jackson, Mecum, Kruse and other auctions as comparables when insuring high dollar cars. Sometimes the underwriters just don't understand and you have to show proof. On another note, I have an old 68 Malibu out back that I am thinking about sticking a Hemi in and running it through BJ in the fall. Anyone know where I can get a set of motor mounts for that???  (all in jest of course unless I could find one of those Smokey Yunick Hemis).
Just out of curiosity, why do you use these auctions for insurance purposes?  This is just a personal opinion of mine, but all I see these auctions as is rich people competing against one another to see who has too much money to spend.  In other words, I see it as all smoke & mirrors, not a reflection of what the cars are realistically worth.
