The shelf life of motor oil is "indefinate" as long as it's in origional container. Does not degrade unless used and then alot of it is recycled and reused. As far as type/mfg. any major oils are excellent such as Shell,Gulf,Havoline,Conoco and Quaker State. The only trick is to change it every 3000 miles and change the oil filter at the same time... Synthetics are also good if you are willing to pay the price. I put in alot of windshield time and all the personal/company vechicles I've driven performed to very high mileages/ (100,000 miles +) without an oil related problem. I have afew quarts of Shell oil that I bought about 4 years ago by the case. I wiil continue to use it in my 396/375 untill it's all gone without a worry. gm66

There is Red line, Amsoil, Royal Purple that is big in my area, Lucas, and others. How can you separate the bull from the fact! And again how long will it last. If a year is all, then you may be getting bad oil even though the bottle or can has never been opened! Hence is there a manufacture date on the container? There has to be someone that tests all oil and compares them! Looks like a lot of smoke and mirrors! Also....What is the shelf life of oil? The company I work for has an oil analysis lab so I asked the lead tech person, and she replied that the shelf life used to be about a year but that might not necessarily be true anymore. She recommended checking ExxonMobil's website and I suppose it wouldn't hurt to check other companies' sites as well. Brad _____________________________________________________________ Netscape.
