It's proper to lube only the lower 2/3rd of the cable. all the way may allow 
it to get into the speedometer and make messy. I've lubed hundreds that way 
successfully over the years. gm66

The speedometer cable on my 70 396 is squeeling. Would it help to apply dry
graphite to cable and if so do you put it in behind speedo or where it
