Is it possible to get the stock oil pan off my 454 without hoisting the
engine up?
I have the trans out for a clutch replacement, and now might be the
time to replace that pesky pan gasket that weeps a bit.
thanks
Mike

That's too bad Dennis. Just keep
looking. I'm sure you will find something you like.

Re: [Chevelle-list] Spark plug wires
Thanks Larry, my late model small block has valve cover bolts
in the center rather than the edge. Summit shows them for center bolt
valve covers but it would not look nearly as clean as yours.

Dennis,
If you do a search with just
RNM- in the search box, you will see them all. They come in polished,
red or blue for all kinds of applications.
To install, you just back out
two of your valve cover bolts, match up the holes and put the bolts
back in.
It costs around $40.

Hi Larry,
Your big block does look great. Please tell me about your plug wire
guides. Do you know if there is something similar for late model small
blocks? Do they screw onto the side of the head?
Thanks,

Re: [Chevelle-list] Spark plug wires
Jim,
Thanks for the kudos. The
air cleaner is a combination of a drop down base, a 14x2.5 inch K&N
Filtercharger, and the top is a K&N X-stream filter top that is
supposed to add 500+ cfm of airflow. I had to go with this combination
to overcome my clearance issue in my 66 brought on by the use of the
Edelbrock Performer RPM Airgap intake.

Larry, That is beautiful. I will
use it as a guide for mine. Interesting air cleaner. What is it??

Re: [Chevelle-list] Spark plug wires
Ditto. I also bought the
MSD p/n 35379 for the big blocks which are 8.5mm spiral wound 50 ohm
wires with the bendable ends. They are red with gray boots.
As a sidenote about MSD
as a company, when I assembled my engine, I took it in to have it
dyno'ed. In the process, I lost my coil wire. Not being able to find a
suitable replacement at Summit, I called MSD. They sent one out at no
charge. Way to go MSD!
Here's a picture of my
engine with the wires.

Re: [Chevelle-list] Spark plug wires
I found that MSD
Multi-angle ends worked best with my BB and Hooker headers. They can
each be bent to fit their particular location.

I've been meaning to ask for a recomendation on
wires as well. I have a 69 396SS with Hooker Comp headers and I'm
needing to replace the plug wires. Any brands to avoid? 45 degree
boots? 135 degree boots?

I bought some of the
Taylor 8MM spiral wound wires. Just plain black, with the 45 degree
boots. You can get them straight, or 90 degree also. They appear stock,
only giveaway is some white writing on them.
