Maybe it's just Washington, Oregon and California but I thought two vehicles
were allowed in one lane at the same time. That's why motorcycles can ride
side by side and those crazy guys in California can ride between cars when
the freeway jams up.

I brought home my 1981 Yamaha 650 twin today. The tank and covers are
freshly painted, new dual exhaust, new seat, and a new small windshield. It
looks & rides great. It's fun to be on a bike again, although I did see a
piece of garbage tossed out a window in front of me, a couple of people who
didn't realize that only one vehicle is allowed in the lane at a time and
mine is also a vehicle, and the usual impatient SUV drivers who also
terrorize regular cars, like the guy who tried to pass me on the right while
I (we) was (were) making a left turn in busy traffic. An interesting thing
about motorcycles is that every little thing that is problematic about
driving a car is worse for a motorcycle. Proceed with caution everybody, and
have a good time.
