I think I know what to do here, but I'll run it by the list in case I'm setting myself up for disaster.

I somehow recently developed what seems to be a dead short in the fat red wire that goes from the battery to the horn relay (my junction block is gone). It's killing the battery when the car is sitting. I detached that wire at both ends and noticed that if I put a meter between the positive battery terminal and either end of that wire, it pulls full battery voltage and amperage.

So, as a test I was thinking about bypassing that wire and running a new one to the horn relay. The other option would be to take the radiator top plate off, unwrap the harness, look for physical damage and replace that wire if it is damaged. A little more work but probably a more sophisticated approach.

Anyway, since the list is slow I just thought I'd see if anyone has any suggestions. Unfortunately my battery seems to be toast. It was stone dead when I realized the problem. I had it on a .5A battery tender for about 5 days and it only got up to 8V. That charger is really for my motorcycle battery. Maybe it's just not strong enough for a car battery. I figured if it couldn't charge it in 5 days it never will. Maybe now that it has 8V it would be ok to jump it.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks,
John Nasta
