Jerry,

Not really. Unless you can find out who built the engine last, if the
block was decked and if they protected the stampings while being decked.
Otherwise all you can do is check to see if block casting #'s match for
your year, this # is stamped on the back of the block. Check to see if
block casting date relates to build date of car. This date is stamped on
rear of block on top next to where bell housing bolts. Also your head
numbers would help to tell. If they check out to be original chances are
your whole engine is. Also Intake manifold #'s. Get on Chevelle.net and
you can find all sorts of #'s and where to look. Good Luck. I am
assuming you are talking big block as a '67 SS has to have a big block.

Mike

Is there any way to tell that it has been restamped? Thanks Jerry

        Jerry,

Actually it will only need to be the last 6 digits that need
to match the VIN#. You are a #'s match as long as it has not been a
restamp.

I recently purchased a numbers matching 67 Chevelle SS - My
question is the VIN number on the car should match exactly the engine
block number. Is that correct? The engine number is 17A152662 and the
car VIN is 138177a152662....I am missing a 7 in the engine block number
versus the VIN on the body. Any thoughts from you experts?

        Thanks Jerry
