I wouldn't think this is a big problem. You could probably talk to the
DMV, say you've had this car for years, and have the VIN verified or
something like that. I'm sure these things happen...

Hullo Josh,
Enough to Rant About!!!!
My 65 Malibu went through the same situation. Found that the engine
number was different to the original registration certificate. The
Malibu was standing since 1982!!!
Problem was solved through the local Licensing Office and Police
Vehicle Theft Unit. The numbers were corrected at no cost and the
Malibu is now registered in my name. You should have a similar system
there to solve the problem.

Just thought I would rant about it I checked the VIN on my red 66
finally and was going to match the title..... I came to find out I have
the wrong stinking title!!!!! Or somebody goofed 30 some odd years ago
it all matches save for the last 3 digets and they are off by a couple
hundred. Really sucks the thing=2
0has a better body on it than my black
car. I did kind of have some plans of just tossing in a quickie small
block and have something to flog on, I sold the Monte Carlo. Anyway I'm
going to call the courthouse tomorrow and see if the VIN on the car is
still out there or if it has been junked, or if the danged thing is
stolen!!! The guy I got it off of had it for almost 20 years sitting
behind his barn and I traded him out of it with an old 69 pickup I had,
I have known him forever and THOUGHT he had checked this stuff out,
thats what I get for thinking. Oh well if I cann't get it titled I
guess it will make one heck of a parts car. Sucks to do that to a real
138 car though. I'll keep you all posted.
