Had a similar problem with my 71, but difference is I replaced the backup
switch, and noticed two purple wires coming into the switch, not the backup
wires itself. My new switch did not have the plug attachment for these purple
wires. When I went to start the car, nothing. After some needed research,
those wires are the neutral saftey switch, would have never started in a
million years without making those wires connect.
Just made a short bridge between the two, car starts fine now!

Subject: [Chevelle-list] 69 Chevelle starting problem

My Chevelle will not start or even turn over. Last time out (approx. 4 months
ago), it started fine and ran good. No sign of any problem. Went to start it up
over the week-end and nothing. Charged the battery and had it checked
out......battery checked out good. Still will not start or turn over. I'm
wondering if it's the starter and hoping not something more serious / costly.
I'm planning on working on it this week-end and was looking for some advice
on what to look for and check out.
