that moisture sitting on the cylinder wall can cause problems also.

  I think you should do a compression test first.  It might be a blown head 
gasket.

  on my elcamino small block when i first start it in the spring, i pull the 
plugs and shoot a little oil in the cyls and then crank it over-until i get oil 
pressure.   i notice that cyls 3-5-6 squirt out a little anti-freeze, not much 
maybe a tablespoon full.  during the season i do not notice the coolant level 
drop or any white smoking- someone said i should reseal the back 2- bolts on 
the intake?
