Subject: [chhattisgarh-net] Lingagiri villagers back home, now it is turn of Basaguda

Dear Friends,

Yesterday (20th March 2009), 40 tribal families of Lingagiri village reached their own village by noon after spending a displaced life of 4 years from 2005.

I visited Lingagiri yesterday with a group of media persons. Villagers told me that all the food stuff what they had carried has exhausted on the way. We had provided some ration to the people; which will hardly last for two more days only.

So tomorrow Mr. Kopa Kunjam; our human shield member will try to take ration for a month to Lingagiri village. We hope Salwa Judum will not create any hurdle in this effort.

We are also sending slates, black board, copies, pencils, chalk sticks etc. for starting a school for the children; unless Govt. starts its own. Though in Nendra village; which is our first human shield experiment village; Govt. has not provided anything so far.

Yesterday when media persons asked the villagers about this grievances; they narrated how a girl was raped by a SPO Commander Samaiyya and was shot dead putting barrel inside her mouth.

One man was burnt alive in his own house. One old man was beaten to death for protesting their against brutal actions of SPOs.

People also told us about how the houses of the village were burnt down.

We are informing collector that all accused are still posted at Basaguda Police Station and the people of Lingagiri need to be protected from those accused SPOs.

A teacher approached us and told that he was posted in Tarrem school. He is resident of Basaguda village; but he was never allowed to visit his school & village and wanted our support on getting permission of Govt. to rehabilitate his family in his own village and to start up his school; where he was posted pre-salwa judum.

Media tried to talk to collector on this issue but he said that he will look into this after elections.

When we were returning towwards the district headquarters Bijapur residents of Basaguda; who are now displaced in Awapalli, stopped us and sought our assistance for their rehabilitation.

They said that they were brought to Salwa Judum camp forcibly and were kept there by force for last four years.

They have put application to the collector and other officials many times in the past that they want to go back; but none even given them any reply or assurance.

The initiative taken by Lingagiri villagers, have inspired them to go back in their village for enjoying a peaceful life.

We are informing collector that they would go to their village on 28th of March with the human shield volunteers.

Suggestion from a new member

Posted by: "Rajeev Gyani" rajivgy...@gmail.com

Dear Yuvraj Gajpalji,

Hello,

My impression till date is good about CGnet. But I have one suggestion which you may include in your activities. Though your vision is probably complete Chhattisgarh but you can select few genuine problem of some cities or towns & can takes views from various people about the probable solutions.

For example - there can be a problem in Raipur about the parking problem in the heart of the city,so what can be the solutions or how can the traffic systembe more smooth at Telibandha Crossing or Pachpedi Crossing (very easy one tostart with) ........& like wise.

The selected solutions may be openly forwarded to the concerned department. It should work out in purely positive visible manner. There should not be any possibility of any bad intention.

Why am I suggesting this is because at present I am in Japan since last two & half months but I live in Raipur. I am observing very minutely the reasons for successful operations of various systems here in Japan. Here media, people, & many NGOs help government to take decisions or convey the government about what people want. No negative type of working.

Similarly slowly we should also develop such confidence in our
governmental structure that the voice of people is to help you (govt.) totake good decision & decisions which can really work out with good acceptance in masses.

With best wishes.

Rajeev Gyani

Re: Dream CG meet 4

Dear friends,

Let me first thank friends from Bilaspur for taking the initiative to organize Dream CG meet 4 in Ratanpur on June 5,6 and possibly 7.

I confirm my participation. Pls let me know where to send the money.

I would also like to comment on the suggestions, if I may :

Having a main theme of Water is a fantastic idea.

But can I suggest that we discuss water and related issues on day 1 and leave the second day for other subjects. A dedicated team who wants to work on water can continue their discussion on the water issue on Day 2 as well.

I thought planning a day 3 will be a bit too optimistic but would be keen to be corrected if friends think otherwise.

I think the organizers should also put a cut off date by which each of us should confirm our participation and send the money, so that there is an idea of for how many people arrangements have to be made

I would have thought issues related to displacement must be discussed on day 2. It includes general issues like displacement from industrialisation and specific issues like Salwa Judum etc

I will request all the friends to send their views as soon as possible to enable organising team to decide faster

regards
Shubhranshu
