Hm, I think that's overengineering it. This is just bootstrap.sh we're talking about, which is already quite a niche use case (typically, users will use a (pre)release tarball). Maybe it's fine as it is? I've never heard any complaints about it. What prompted you to come up with this patch in the first place? Cheers, Peter
