Hi Everyone,
My little Sirius was neutered today .I was very nervous but the vet called and said he is fine.He took along his VET toy and they got a kick out of it.He is now 6 months old and a bigger size chi weighing in today at 6lbs 5ozs.I have two questions since this my first chi.I have been told 2 things one switch now to adult food and others say go the year on puppy. When do they hit full size and about when do they get their full long coat. Thanks
Terri

I have had chis for 20 years and have bred them off and on. I always keep my pups on puppy chow until they are 10 to 12 weeks old, then I gradually began switching to adult food (small size...they have a hard time even as adults with the big chunks!) It usually takes a week or two for the full transition, using less puppy food, more adult food with each feeding.
As for the long coats, some of them have them as early as 8 to 10 months, but I have seen some take a year and a half to two years to get the full length and thickness.

Marsha
