Hi Jess,

That topic came up this morning in my other chi group.  I was actually going to comment on it later.  I read that it is like a reverse hiccup that is fairly common for chi’s when they get excited.

I was glad to get that information.  My 2 year old chi did it a lot when we first got her last spring.  It is like a “honking” kind of noise, not really a cough.  She still does it once in a while.  And now that I actually think about it, it is always when she is excited.  I thought about allergies because Trin’s eyes tend to be watery sometimes, but I guess it is just another one of those special little things about chi’s J

Although you still may want to ask the vet to be sure it isn’t something more.

Subject: [Chihuahuas] One quick question

My little Taffy girl gets very excited when we come home. Sometimes it
seems like she is gasping for air. We are thinking that maybe she has
asthma. Does anyone know why she does that? She does it for awhile and
I try to calm her down but sometimes that wont work..it worries us!
