Hi! I'm also new to the group. My husband and I share our home and our utterly complete devotion to 4 darling Chis, and one Pitt Bull who THINKS she's a Chihuahua. Three of  our little ones are elders - 13, 12, and 11 years old, and one is 8. Two have heart problems. Just a couple of months ago my husband's favorite little girl developed an infected uterus and was seriously ill. We didn't hesitate, we bundled her up in her favorite blankie and rushed her straight to the vet (without making an appointment). Our vet didn't offer much hope for her because of her heart ailment. She doubted if she'd come out of the anesthetic. But we insisted she operate anyway. That precious little dog made fools of everyone! She came through the surgery with no problems whatsoever. We had her back in our arms four days after the operation. It really hurt to hear my husband cry when he thought he was going to lose his little girl (her name is Miss Mouse- she's a chocolate longhair 12 years old). He cried tears of joy when she lept into his arms after being hospitalized. She's currently taking Lasex and Enecard for her heart, but you'd never know she had any problems at all. Since the surgery she's ben as perky as a puppy.   Our other Chi, with heart problems is a black and white, longhaired Cobby-type (she short-legged and stocky) is called Pumbaa because she's always breaking wind or burping. She never has shown any discomfort from her condition. She is losing all of her teeth, though. The poor little girl hardly has any at all. I'm thinking that it's her taste for sweeties that is the reason for the tooth loss.   Peanut is our senior, at 13 years old. She's a tiny smoothcoat, and has never been sick a day in her life, Thank God. Our 8 year old is a cream-colored deer-type, who is really over weight (just like her Mom, lol!). As for our Pittbull, Poopey Doo, she shows complete submision to our considerably smaller and older Chis. They nip at her, bite her nose and face, etc. if she tries to muscle in when they are getting attention from Mom and Dad. And Poopey Doo invariably backs off, as if to say "Whatever!' or "Yes, Ma'am!" It's comical to see her trying to curl up into a tight ball so she won't appear so large, and we have an awful time trying to get her to eat a larger (larger that the Chis' bowls) bowl of food. She wants be like them. Pittbulls have hooked claws (just like a cat, only they're not retractable), but Poopey Doo bites her claws down so they are like those the Chis have. We adopted her from a shelter, so I'm thinking that her behavior is her way of fitting in so she won;t be returned to that cold metal cage. As if we could part with her!
