Welcome Cathy. I too do a lot of rescues but as a chi breeder, I will not do a chi rescue because to many people start thinking I only want the chi to breed. How absurd! Like I would ever breed and unknown to one of my babies!! But, I don't want people to think that, so I avoid chis...kinda sad that those of us who could probably help that breed the most, due to our knowledge of the breed, are the same ones who can't help the breed because other people want to think badly. So, anyways, I do large breeds. All are rescues. I would have a hundred but my lap is only so big. I was one of the founders of the Humane Society in our area and now am actively involved in rescue work in our County. My 1st Chi was on the list to be euthanized the following morning, my 2nd was tossed out in a lady's yard along with several other little breeds. My 3rd was taken to the pound to be put down because she wouldn't learn to go up and down stairs. #4's owner died and she was left at the Vets for 4 months. #5 was found lying in the middle of a busy highway and just rolled over on his back when approached...his knuckles on all four feet were bloody from where he had been dragged. #6 came from a backyard breeder who had bred this poor little thing constantly for 12 years and was ready to dispose of her because she was old. Every tooth in her head had to be extracted because they were so rotten. #7 was a foster stray that I adopted only to find out that she was pregnant. 7 of the cutest babies you've ever seen. All went to wonderful homes....I kept one little female. It that the Dad might have been a Jack Russell.  I have found homes for numerous other chihuahuas but these eight were so special that they stayed. I am looking forward to hearing from those of you that have rescues. I write newspaper articles from time to time about rescue and would love to share some of your stories.
