Don't be so quick to get mad at the breeder. The red mange parasite
is on almost all dogs. Sometimes the immune system of a puppy is
unable to adequately control the mite, or the pup reacts unusually to
the mite, and thus you have the problem. Not really the breeders
fault. That being said, this tendancy towards problems with red mange
does run in families, and the breeder should be made aware of what is
happening, so that she can either stop breeding that dam, or at very
least change the sire.

Also, be very wary of any "dips". These are not usually effective
against red mange, and CAN VERY SERIOUSLY DAMAGE THE HEALTH OF
CHIHUAHUAS, who happen to be especially sensitive to the dip. I know
a chihuahua that has severe lifelong neurological problems caused by
an ill-advised "dip". He staggers around like a little FRANKENSTEIN!
(He is a good fellow regardless.)
Do some research- symptomatic relief, immune
support, good nutrition, and TIME is often the best treatment.

I am so mad b/c I know the breeder knew this since it comes from the
mother, and she didn't even warn me. Nonetheless, I am greatful I am
the one who bought her since I can afford to take care of her
properly. I am glad that I took her to the vet when I did. So, if
anyone ever notice hair loss, please take your chi to the vet asap.
