Dear Jean
This website should help wit its descriptions of pre-surgery bloodwork and
anesthesia. I had also asked about heart monitoring (mentioned on website) but
my vet did not have it. The part about sutures is good to know too.

Subject: [Chihuahuas] Re: Vet Recommendations for neutering

Regarding bloodwork prior to neutering: The girl at the desk said
they would do the bloodwork the day of surgery and they had a lab in
the clinic. Does this sound unreasonable? This is a small clinic
that is a satellite of a larger one about 15 miles away. I guess I
wasn't sure what they would be looking for in the bloodwork and if
the results would take time or could be read instantly. She said
they would use an IV.

Does that mean the anesthetic is given thorugh the IV also? I
searched this site for the term "Masking" as it relates to anesthesia
and nothing popped up so I don't know what the concerns are in regard
to masking.

Should I make another appointment for the bloodwork? I now realize
that with past dogs I have owned I was not asking enough questions
and not taking responsibility myself for my dog's health.

I know there is a balance between trusting the vet too much or not at
all.

Thanks,
Jean
