We went through this when our baby chi came home and then again with my
new maltese rescue. Reward the good behavior and don't be afraid to get
a little loud with the NO when he starts to get wound up. In my opinion
it was to late after it escalated. I would use the kennel/crate no
matter what because in the end they do feel safe like in their den and
do not let him out until he is quiet. We ended up using the tv as a
distraction or pacifier a couple of times at night and had good results
with it.

PS She loves animal planet.
