Sherri,I understand your frustration,but male dogs are
going to mark their territory no matter what,now there
will be people who will tell you that there are all
kind of ways to stop them,but I have owned chi's for
over 15 years,I have 9,3 boys and I have done
everything there is to do and they still mark.The only
way to stop them is to put them outside.I only put old
rugs in my house,I use sheets on my furniture,but I
love my chi's more than pretty floors and furniture,so
I work it out.I hope that you will consider how much
he means to you before you decide to put him in a
shelter to probably be put down.My opinion is that
when we got our animals,they had no choice,they are
like children,they have to be taken care of and it is
our responsibilty to do that.Take him out more
often,put him  in a pen outside in a closed-in place
and take him out more.Good Luck
