Troy, my two chis, Pixie and Zoey, have the microchip. I still like to have tags just in case. They get used to the tags after a while, just have a small tag and comfortable collar. My oldest, Pixie, has had her chip for almost 4 years and she has never had any problems. I do recommend it as I witnessed a dog at the vet that was found wandering the streets reunite with her owner due to the chip. Evelyn
