This is called inbreeding. Some breeders do purposely do it if they have outstanding quality dogs that they wish to reproduce. But keep in mind that while it can potentially double the positive, it can also more easily double the negative.
I do not inbreed and personally would never consider it nor recommend it. Therefore, I do not have a lot of knowledge in the area. I have heard something about it being ok to breed the son back to the mom OR the daughter back to the dad....but I can't even remember which way they said it was suppose to go. One way was considered "acceptable" and the other totally unacceptable. Personally, I think it is a very bad idea all the way around and if possible, you need to avoid it.
