Subject: [Chihuahuas] An Introduction

Hello Everyone,

I was searching through the Yahoo groups hoping to find one related to
Chihuahua's and found you guys! I'm really looking forward to being a part
of the group.

I haven't had a dog in the family since I was of the tween age. When I got
married a couple years ago my husband and I adopted a stray cat from my
parents neighborhood. From then on we were in love with cats. Needless to
say we now have four of them, 2 boys and 2 girls. About six months ago I
kinda decided I'd love to have a small dog in our family too, but with four
cats comes lots of vet bills, food, litter, etc. So I knew we shouldn't get
a dog anytime soon. That was okay, I was willing to wait until the 'right'
time.

Instead I searched on the net for various small dog rescues who needed
foster parents in our area. I found two I was really impressed with. However
one needed foster homes in NY, so I applied there. In short time we were
approved to be foster parents. Our first foster was Simon, a Shih Tzu. With
Simon came the knowledge that because of my Rheumatoid Arthritis and
Fibromyalgia my wrists couldn't handle a dog bigger than 10 lbs on walks.
Our second foster was Lil Bit, a Pomeranian/Chihuahua mix. I had a really
hard time letting Lil Bit go when he was adopted. The only thing keeping my
heart from completely breaking was that his new mom was a very wonderful
woman. Our third foster, was Chi Chi, a Chihuahua. We promptly changed her
name to Chianna. We received her on a Sunday morning. By that Sunday night I
wasn't sure I could give her up so I started asking around if there were any
applications for her yet. My area coordinator told me no and was thrilled we
wanted to adopt her. She said she knew that Chianna was perfect for us and
hoped we weren't mad but she was really hoping we'd adopt her. So... our
hearts won over and we adopted Chianna, now renamed Jaelyn.

Jaelyn is an adorable 5lb armful. After asking around I found out she had
been turned in to the rescue from a breeder down south. I don't know how
long she'd been breeding, but as she's 3 years old I'm guessing one year,
possibly two or more. Now she will have nothing but love and spoiling in
this house. She loves attention and snuggling. Doesn't care for men so much,
but she's getting there. She's already wrapped around my husband's finger,
and my dad and youngest brother are on their way to winning her over too.
She's never walked on a leash until about a month before she came to us. She
now walks on a leash like she's been doing so for years. She wasn't quite
potty trained when we got her, but she's mostly potty trained now. It's been
3 days without an accident. *fingers crossed* She gets along okay with the
kitties. She hardly ever barks. My dad kept trying to tell me... 'You don't
want a Chihuahua they're yappy non-stop barkers.' She proved him wrong. ;)

Because Jaelyn is my first dog and the only Chihuahua I'd seen in person I
do have alot of questions and things I get concerned about with her. I was
hoping I could learn alot about her behavior and such from other Chihuahua
mom and dads.

I'm including a couple pictures I took of her last week.

Warmest Wishes,
Jesslan
