The vet told me to do the same thing that you just said. 
I did it with Kiko AND I had to give in  she would not eat. AT ALL. 
She walks by her dish, looks at it, walks by me, gives a dirty
look and a tiny whine and that's it.  The stubborn little
cutie.
I did not know about nutrical until this sick time with her
this week and you all helped me.

don't give the option. Simple as that. Place the food you think is best
for him and he would like the most of all, and then leave it there.
Eventually he will eat...they will NOT starve themselves. Just make sure
you are the strong one and dont give in, lol. You may want to give a
little nutrical a couple times a day for the next 3 days or so.,....about
the amount of time it will take for him to give in and see it is that or
nothing :-)
