Subject: [Chihuahuas] Cali

Hello all,

My name is Lisa, my Chi's name is Cali. I got her back in May from a friend
of mine who didn't have time for her anymore. My friend's min-pins were also
picking her and had really inhibited her personality.

When Cali came here, she didn't want to eat out of her dog dish, was
terrified of my very large German Shepherd; while my Australian Shepherd
female did
exactly the right thing and ignored her, yet Cali wasn't afraid of the
horses. She did have a healthy respect for them, but I have to watch her and
hold
her when riders come by as she goes right up to the horses without any fear!

It took about a month, but Cali came out of her shell. She realized she
could "bully" my German Shepherd, learned to leave the Aussie alone too, and
found out cats are REALLY fun to play with! (My house cat had kittens that
were
just her size and very fearless!)

She had also come into heat at that time. My friend had said she was going
to breed Cali, but seeing as how Cali had just come to my house, I wasnt going
to put her through that as well!

Cali comes from a show home...where her daddy was a large Chihuahua and her
momma was smaller. It was an accidental breeding, but I am glad cause I got
Cali out of it! She is a poster Chi dog! While she hadn't gone many places and
met many people when I got her, since I have had her she goes many, many
places, and has calmed down a lot! She was very afraid of children when I got
her, but she even let a toddler pet her last night! Course he did have french
fry grease on his hands so he smelled good! He offered her a french fry, let
her take a bit off of it, then ate it himself! LOL Classic! :D

Anyway, she not only allows people to pet her, but she goes up to them...she
is a little scared of feet yet, but that too will fade in time and as she
gets used to being around people in public.

I look forward to being on the list. Cali may be pregnant now, and I have
nutrition questions to ask from real breeders instead of just reading
articles.
I don't know many breeders around here (I live in Lake County Florida) so I
knew I needed a place to go to get good information.

Thank you.

Cali is really coming out of her shell and learning to be a Chi! She has
found out she can terrorize the neighbor's greyhound and goes under the
neighbors gate when we go for walks! My other neighbor has a Rhodesian
Ridgeback and
Cali runs along the fence up and back with her too (Cali keeps up very well
with that big dog!!!) She tried to get the horses to run with her like the
Rhodesian Ridgeback, but they haven't gotten it yet!
