Beau will not step up on a stick, on a hand, gloved or ungloved, without
lunging and biting. I hired a trainer and we tried everything, finally she
told
me that it would take someone who was willing to take the bites to show him
that biting will not work (and she took some bites). I even bought a hand
held perch that has a plastic shield that is supposed to keep a bird from
biting but he will still try to get to my hand. I can't afford to risk another
serious bite, so it scares me and he knows it. So, he and I have adjusted the
way we interact. If I could find an experienced bird person who was willing
to work with him, I would give him, his huge cage, all of his toys, and his 6
ft. tree branch play gym to her/him. But I will not give him to just anyone.
The breeder was supposed to be helping me find someone, but I haven't hear
anything from him.

That is so sad.Have you try to put him in a different place in the house>I
seen on TV that that can help also use a stick to teach him to step up.I feel
for both of you.

I love budgies. When my beloved Bunkie died, I decided against another
budgie. fearing that I would forever be comparing it to Bunkie, so I got a Red
Bellied parrot. I named him Beau and for the first few years there were no
problems and I could handle him very well but then he started biting and now,
I
wish I had gotten another budgie instead. Beau is not a large parrot but he
has a big beak and a wicked bite. I am diabetic and the bite I got a year
ago last October got infected and took forever to heal. So, I no longer
handle
him, although I do sit by his cage daily and talk to him. He's a great
talker and he seems happy talking and playing with all of his toys but it
saddens
me, I miss the old Beau and I suspect he also misses what used to be..
