I never let the boys out without being there with them. I've met some very sweet, loving pit bulls, but I still wouldn't trust them with my boys. I'd do some serious damage to someone whose dog hurt mine. The fence that separated our properties was an old wood fence that barely was standing. I said to the real state lady that I was concerned for my and my dogs safety. She had said the owners were going to put up a new fence, and they did before escrow closed, so I was relieved. The back fence was a chain length fence with ivy grown all through it, so you really couldn't see the neighbors yard. I had just unloaded the last load and was letting the girls do there business in the yard, I was with them. The neighbors dogs in the back barked, and my 2 ran for the fence. Smidgen had put her foot up on the chain fence and the neighbors dog bit her foot, one toe was taken off, and another was just hanging. This was a great dane that got her. It was a Saturday on Memorial weekend, so we had to rush her to the emergency vet.. $400.00 day. The only thing I could do was go over and tell the neighbor, and make sure there dog was up to date on shots, and if it was licensed. Smidgen was very lucky that the dog only got her toes, if it had been her foot, they would have had to amputate her leg, costing me a couple thousand at least. For the last two years I have had to block off access to that area of the yard. I just was able to put up a solid vinyl fence, so now my intire yard is either a brick wall, or the vinyl. & I still worry. We had a pit bull attack in our area just a couple weeks ago, toddler boy was in his back yard with the familys pit, and the parents had went in to the house for a moment. The pit attacked and killed the boy.. Mayda Estrella, from Richmond, Calif., says her Chihuahua named Manchas jumped between the pit bulls and her 4-year-old son, while she ran to protect her newborn baby. One of the invader dogs looked at the boy and then grabbed Manchas instead, hauling the tiny dog away. Animal services officials say they found the Chihuahua's body near the pit bulls' owner's home, and the dogs are in custody. Their owner won't face any criminal charges, county officials told several news outlets. But the dogs may be put to sleep, under a county law governing dangerous animals.
