Hi Lois,
I do skin some of the fatter pieces...like thighs and breasts that seem to have
lots of skin but leave it on legs and wings. They need some fat! YES...thats
the
cool thing about the Maverick Grinder...ya just put the whole piece in bone and
all. It is amazing...grinds it like it's butter!!! I do have to trim a little
meat off the legs because the opeing is a little small to fit a fatter leg
through and I cut my breasts to fit...but yes bone and all!!! Once ground...you
never know there is bone in it!!! It truley is amazing!!

Yes!!!! Wild game is GREAT!!!!!! mine get pheasant, quail, venison, elk,
caribou, moose, trout, salmon, ocean fish too...whatever my hubby and his
friends bring home!! Now, the grinder does not do beef bones...but i just let
them chew on the bones with me watching...just till they get all the meat off
and clean the bone really good!! They love beef rib bones...like christmas when
they get them...but the bones can be too hard on their teeth so just while I am
watching.

Remember the 80% raw meat...10% edible raw bone...10% organs (kidney and liver)
Eggs are great too...raw. DogtorJ says an egg a day as it is the perfect
protein!! Remember heart and Gizzards are considered a meat not an organ when
figuring your percents. And remember that raw chicken breast is the easiest
meat
to digest so great to start with! I stick with one meat for a few days and then
switch to another type so they get a variety...which is important but I would
say chicken is probably what they get the most of. Don't forget about lamb...it
is one of the cleanest meats you can feed as sheep cannot be raised in feed
lots...they have to graze or they die!!!

Deanna

Hi Deanna,
So sorry for not responding sooner my Internet service is the pits!!!
Thank you so much for the info...I am really anxious to get started...Still a
couple of questions...
Should I skin the chicken? And do you mean if I buy this grinder I can add
bones like a leg or thigh and grind the whole thing?
 Also what about wild game?
Thanks to for the directions for the dog beds...sounds pretty easy...
Thanks again,
Lois

Ok Lois...here goes! I would start with chicken meat...actually chicken breast
as it is the easiest of all meats to digest. You will need a ratio of 85% raw
meat, 10% raw edible bone (not weight bearing ones) and 5% organs. For little
guys I wouldn't worry too much about weighing out portions but the average rule
of thumb is 3% of body weight to start with. As they gain or lose you can
adjust
amounts but to begin with I would just let them eat what they want. In the
beginning I might chop the chicken breast in small pieces and chop up the
cartlidge as well. Or if you have $99 I would buy the Maverick meat grinder
from
www.pierceequipment.com
It grinds up all chicken bones like butter!!!!

The bone is important to balance out the phospherous/calcium ratios. The organs
are needed as well. As they get use to the meat smell and taste and texture I
would then start giving them wings to chew on. The meat/bone ratio is not the
best but it will teach them to crunch up the bone...later you can add big
chunks
of half breasts or legs and thighs. My Chi's are so small I feel better giving
them ground and then some wings and caornish game hens to munch whole pieces
of...as the bones are smaller and softer. That is how I started...now I feed
lots of other meats...PLEASE make sure your chicken is NOT enhanced or
plumped...as that will cause diharrea...I like Foster Farms brand! I still do
not feed pork...but lamb and beef and rabbit are awesome. I have a guy who
sells
and ships fresh rabbits...either whole, or ground with bone in or however you
want it. He is a very nice man in Utah!

You can feed eggs raw as well. My guys LOVE raw eggs! I do not mix the
meats...I
serve one for a couple of days and then move to another. Remember that lamb is
the cleanest meat you can feed. Sheep NEED to graze and can not be kept in feed
lots so they have nice clean grass to munch...they will die if attempted to be
raised any other way.

Really once you get the hang of it...it is really easy and just as cheap as a
good kibble. You will most likely experience many awesome results...cleaner
teeth and breath, amazing coats in about a month, perfect formed stools with
way
less odor...and the stools themselves will be way less as there is little that
goes to waste...better energy, fungus type infections like yeast in ears etc
will vanish. It really is amamzing!!!

Remember too that bone and organs help to balalnce stools...if you get loose
stools then you need to add more bone to their diet...if you get a little
constipation add more organs. Heart and gizzards are considered a muscle
meat...not organs. They are great to feed but are considered in the 85% meat
part. Kidneys and Liver are organs...both chicken and beef. My guys are not
fond
of organs too much but they need them...so I just add them into the grinder
with
a few breasts and they just never know they are there...shhhhh! That way too I
know how much they are getting.

So to sum up:
85%/10%/5%/-meat/bone/organ ratio
3% proposed adult body weight fed
need variety of meats
Need to crunch some bone for teeth but meals can be ground if you are worried
about splinters
Bone and organs balance stools
NO veggies or fruit or grains!
get a Maverick grinder @ www.pierceequipment.com
You will NEVER go back!!!!!

Deanna

YES!!! Please share...I thought about this last night and went to a couple web
sites...Went to the freezer and took out a couple pork chops...All the time
thinking no way my chi's will go for this...Today I cut the chops in small
pieces and served it up...They all looked at it like you have to be
kiding...Then Luci cleaned her plate...Mini ate a a little but I think I will
have to grind the the meat for her...Tiki took a coulpe of bites and turned her
nose up and walked away...Luci woould have eaten all three plates if I had let
her...I guess plates sounds funny, but they each have their own...Not
spoild are
they?
Thanks so much,
 Lois

Subject: [Chihuahuas] Hello

Hello, My name is Lois and I think I was in this group before but it had a
diffrent name? I live in Virginia with my husband Gary and our 3 chi's Luci 8,
Mini 7 and Tiki 6 yrs. old...Tiki is Luci's baby...

I have a question...Luci is having a really hard time with seizures...This
started about a year ago we have been to the vet several times he had her on
meds but they did not help and she gained so much weight that he took her off
of
them...She only has the seizures when she is sleeping...She wakes up screaming
almost like a babies crying, then shakes and gags and is over it...I thoought I
would ask if anyone in the group has had this problem?

I just can't understand why it is only while sleeping and only at night??? Her
little legs are so deformed from the weight gain and she has such a hard time
getting around, but she is a little go getter and waddles around on her
own...We
love her so much it hurts us to see her this way...We give her all the love we
can...
I would be greatful for any information you can give me...

Thanks so much for your help,
Lois
