no, he can NOT catch worms or anything from raw meats...just wash up as you
already do when preparing dinner for people....dogs are made to digest raw meat.

Hi Everyone!!

I really really appreciate all the info on feeding raw foods to my new chi. the
last few days he has been eating pretty good 3 times a day. he is picky, but
funny thing is he will eat one type of food in the morning (his choice),
another one at lunch, and another at dinner. it is dog food. one is cearer wet,
one is purina simi moist, & then Mixables. Oh, I have to hadn feed him. (lol) I
think he might have gained a bit of weight. I will take him to the vets office
tomorrow and have him weighed. I will try the raw meat. Can he get worms from
raw ground beef? The vet did say his teeth need a good cleaning! I will be
doing that next.

THANK YOU EVERYONE! will be looking forward to reading more info about
chiwawa's.

What a lucky little guy.  Maybe try some of the home cooked meals Scott and the
others make?  I've been really impressed with how other's chi's look after
being put on raw or home cooked meals.  I haven't made the change but I do use
Natural Balance products with limited ingredients.  Frida loves the soft food
warmed up some.  They also have food rolls or treat rolls that smell great when
warmed up.  Sounds like you really saved his bacon.  Send pictures, sounds like
a sweetie pie.

hi shanna, i just got 2 chi's in the last 2 months ...brother and sis... both
pooping bloody water , hair loss, way too thin, coccidia, giardia, worms....i
started them at one pound, on the raw diet... they started with ground chicken
quarters mixed with ground beef and ground liver and kidney... they are in
perfect health and weight now... if you want to see ifhe will like it offer a
teaspoonful of raw ground beef or chicken... at his age he can eat a whole
chicken thigh bone and all raw only never cooked. you can cut it in half . raw
food is best for him.

Hi everyone!

I am new to this chihuahua group. We adopted a 4 year old male chi one week ago
from the SPCA (non-Kill shelter) of las vegas. His name "was" Taco, but we
changed it to Ricky. He was turned in by his owners. He is black & tan. He is
very very thin. He should weigh about 7 lbs the vet says, but he weighs about
4.1. His ribs and hip bones show. At first I thought he was starved by his
other owners, but, I am having a real tough time getting him to eat now. The
first 3 days, he ate 4 times a day. Now its barely one time a day. Its not that
he wont eat, its that he picks and chooses what and when he wants to eat. I
have tried to feed him S.D canned, simi-moist, mixables, dog cookies, good dry
dog food, and now he is not eating much at all. this morning he took 4 little
bites of his S.D canned food, but I had to feed it to him by hand! If he were
at a normal weight, I would not worry so much, but he is very under weight. I
bought some Nutri-cal for him
yesterday. he is not thrilled with taking that willingly either... have to put
it in his mouth. The only thing he will eat that he loves is either human
chicken or those pup-a-roni treats. Loves them!

So I know someone here might have some ideas about how to spark his appetite.
He has seen a vet, and seems ok. he is happy and playful. if anyone has any
ideas, please let me know. He has been through a lot. He was at the shelter 2
weeks, shots, micro-chipped, fixed, and put in a kennel with 2 other bigger
small dogs, which one of the dogs was picking on him, barking and bitting at
him. that is when I decided I wanted to see him... and we took him home! PS: I
take him almost everywhere I go. He loves the car.

Thank you

Shanna
Las Vegas
