According to all my research and numerous vets, the bile in a dog's stomach is yellow vomit the color of the bile or stomach acid that is naturally in a dog's stomach. The consistency might be foamy

I have 2 chis that bring up bile every so often. The pawing maybe he wanted out my little ones sleep with me and if they throw up in the night they always get off the bed and when done they come right back up. I have stairs by the bed for them. As for the growling right after, he may have felt like he was going to spit up a little more. You did the right thing in letting him slowly go back to his bed. My chi, Monster, throws up occasionally this clear white stuff and sometimes yellow stuff. Most of the time its from eating something he shouldn't have and sometimes I don't know the reason. He's 5 years old and perfectly healthy. He can just have aten something you didn't see and that can have been on his stommage to. Especially if he's fine now. If you are scared now just go in for a check up. Not all dogs die after throwing up you know. I was hoping he was just having a very bad dream and maybe if he sleeps outside his crate in my room with me and my other dog, that everything would be okay. Pretty naive, huh? He is absolutely fine today. We just spent 15 minutes playing with his toys. My new 3 year old chi still sleeps in his closed crate every night and usually sleeps like a baby. But last night, he started "pawing" his bedding. It was very loud and desperate sounding. He wasn't crying - just pawing. So I ran in and opened the door. He was just kind of laying on his side up against his blankets. I picked him up and held him close to calm him, but I could feel he was getting ready to throw up. So I set him down on the patio floor. He threw up stuff that didn't resemble his dinner! When I reached down to pick him up, he just growled at me. Each time I would approach him, he'd back up, stare up at me and growl. So I finally just ignored him and walked around behind him and "herded" him back into the house. He ran to his crate instantly and laid down.
