I have had really good luck with training my chi's - my first I used a litter box but I just used cheap cat litter - I got some spray at one of the pets stores that is suppose to intice them to pee in that area and put some on the litter - you should of seen that cute little 2 lb chi climb in the litter box to pee - it was so cute. He got it right away. Then after a few weeks because I also had an older dog I put some of the used litter on the grass and took both my big dog and my baby outside and he totally understood. I think he may of had one or two accidents and that was it. HOWEVER, I was with him 24/7 and watched him ever second and the minute I saw him even sniff out he went. I also took him out almost every hour in the beginning - soon he was barking at the door and totally trained by 12 weeks. My vet would not fix him until he was 6 months - which was perfect because he was still squating - because he was watching his sister. So he hardley ever lifted his leg, only once in awhile when we were walking and he smelled other pee. His privates stayed small, he never humped or displayed any of some of the male issues. Dogs usually poop within an hour after eating so I always walked mine after eating. They seem to always pee closer to the house and poop farther away. My girl was almost the same way except I just started her on the lawn right away but I got her at 12 weeks, few accidents and she is great. I have to share the cutest thing that I love the best about her once in awhile she does have to use the bathroom in the middle of the night esp if she has had too many treats. She wakes me up by licking my face - she just licks and licks until I take her out. It is one of the things I just adore about her. She is so precious. Now I am getting my new baby in 2 weeks and the breeder as told me she is already using the pee pads so I will let everyone know how she does. I can't imagine I could be that LUCKY 3 times in a row - but after all that i s my last name - he he Nancy and girls.
