hi emberly... i just got my first chi...female small and she is 4 months now ... was 7 weeks old when i got her. it all depends heavly on how you raise them... mine is taken every where and and who ever we meet gets to hold and pet her... making SURE no one drops her ! (she tries to jump down) one bad incident and she will make up "reasons" so protect like crazy but share the love and keep it light hearted dont feed into the fear.. when they shake i say KNOCK IT OFF! and get a toy and play... cause either they are cold or scared and playing heals both those issues.... ya know the first time they hear thunder we go out and dance in the rain and play... it only takes a minute but saves a life of fear. a crack of thunder and a GOOD GIRLLL PIECE OF CHICKEN. dont feed into fears by coddling poor baby come cuddle ill save you !! this tells the dog they SHOULD be scared and you agree with their decision to be scared...dont agree with it. .... and you are right pups must meet everythng and every one and have all good experiences ... and should something happen like a booboo let them see they will be ok no coddling just a patpat you are fine now go get that ball!! ...cuddling must happen when there is nothing wrong... and a lot. it has worked for my danes for 32 years and is working beautifully with the chi... i also have her completely house broken OFF LEASH! inside litter box with weewee pad in it. she knows she has to jump into her potty not just squat on any rug... darcy

The dog was so quiet I was so surprised because everyone says they bark a lot. Well I walk over to the cage and there's this little brown and tan chi and she was so pretty, but I couldn't touch her. She growled and tried to eat me up when I looked into the cage. My friend can not even take her out of her crate to feed her and walk her. Her owner has to come over to take her out and feed her. I was thinking about getting a chi, but I don't want my baby to be like that. I've read that they tend to be less friendly with strangers. If I socialize my puppy early would they be more friendly with strangers? Is this a easy to train breed? I mean as far as obedience and tricks? I read they were pretty hard to train. Emberly
