I walked threw the shelter and almost brought home a one eyed chihuahua! I
spent time with her, but she got adopted. When I was playing with her a lady
came looking for her the lady was sooo happy!!

Thank you. You are going to make an excellent mommy. Can't wait to see who you
bring home.  Hey maybe if you decide on a Chi, you will get 2 of them, you
never know..

Your story really touched me. I live in Ontario - Canada - We have Chihuahuas
in shelters here too but not so many - kind of like our human population
differences! My Petfinder search in 100miles so I see all the wonderful Chi's
in NY - I have to look closely or fall for one of them.

turns out that she is 6 years old and not 2 as her last owner was told when she
found her on ebay classified a month before. It also turns out that I and 2Vets
believe that she was some ones backyard breeder dog, and never taken care of
the way she should have been. I knew the minute I saw her that she was older
and was going to have some medical issues., and I didn't care because I fell in
love with her instantly. She deserved so much better then what her previous
life had given her. Through the years I have had poodles, yorkies, and malteses
and for me the Chihuahua is the top of the list for the toy breeds. They give
you the combination of a lap dog and a large active/courageous big dog all
wrapped up in one. She was incredibly easy to housebreak for outside as well as
on wee pads. Just within the first couple of months she slipped right into my
routine and has understood and acted on commands very readily. They are a smart
breed and catch onto everything very fast.

face everyday and that is a blessing.

that you adopt/rescue a chi and not buy one. Petfinders says that their are
over 13,000 Chi's in shelters and rescues across the states that need homes.
Why anyone wants to breed them right now, when so many desperately need homes
is beyond me. CA has the largest turnover of Chi's and many of the rescues are
willing to transport them anywhere for only a small fee.

http://www.dogsindanger.com/ use the drop down for the breed and the state. You
will be horrified how many are on death row every day. It's heartbreaking, and
believe me the figures are correct for euthanized dogs.

lot of chis in the southern states and mid west states that need homes too.
When you do find a shelter on Petfinders, especially in the southern states,
beware that those dogs only have 5 days left to be saved, so you have to act
quickly.

say they have folded ears - but I see a lot of them - are they mixed breeds? I
also have seen Merle dogs - in Dashounds they are not allowed due to health
issues - is this also something to avoid?
