Hi Peggy

That is such a sweet story! I love stories... good ones!  I know most on this
group have a story to tell how they got there rescue chi, or any rescued dog
they have. I love great endings. I really would like to adopt another chi, but
my hubby is saying no... and I am not sure how Ricky will feel if I gave
attention to another chi in need.

Shanna, I have to agree with you... dog's just seem to have a sense as to where
they know that they will be happy. No one wanted Princess when she was in the
shelter, and I was fortunate to get her just in the nick of time too. They said
I was the only one that she warmed up too. Funny thing...I was getting ready to
leave and not take her yet because I wanted to think about it. The only reason
I wanted to think about it is because she was completely ignoring me. All she
kept doing was looking at the door in the room, and wanted to go home. I
finally sat down after 15 minutes of trying to get her attention, and was ready
to leave, when all of a sudden she does a 360 and jumps on my lap, puts both
her paws on each side of my shoulders and nozzles her head into my neck, and
she stayed absolutely still, as if waiting for me to either tell her to get off
or except her invitation. With that, how could I say no?  I was actually
looking for a chi or a small toy
at the time, and none to be found. I really didn't want an 18 pound dog, but
then Princess thinks she is a lap dog, Lol!

Eskies are extremely loyal, like the Chi's, and it took her months to
completely trust me. She was forever looking at the door, or literally crying
at the window. She couldn't understand where her master was, and only wanted to
search for him and find her way home. I would guess, and I hope it never, ever,
happens, but if she ever got lost, she would now react the same way to find
me.  She kinda has a Lassie personality in many ways, now. She did have some
fierce aggression issues in the beginning to. It took almost 8 months to
housebreak her, and to stop the aggression. She is so different now. I have had
her for 4yrs and she was about 1.8 months old at the time. She protects me, the
birds and Gigi. A real mother-hubbard type. It was all well worth it too. She
has incredible insight into people, if she senses something bad in a person,
she will let you know, but at the same time will listen to my command to
'ease-off' and will go into a sit, but is
still on guard, ready to protect me, if need be. On the other hand, if she
senses something really nice in a person, she is all over them. She is a very
special little lady, indeed..

Hi

I have never stopped thinking about the day we went to find a dog at the
shelter. We were not even thinking about a chi. The dog I went for I had seen
on their website was gone. it found a home. Which was a very good thing. So
here we are looking around... came up to this one cage with 2 small dogs that
in it. (there turned out to be 3 dogs in the cage) One of them, was barking at
something on the blanket, but it was a bit dark and I could not see what it
was. Then I saw this little tiny very skinny black dog get up and tuck his tail
as this other dog continued to bark and bite at his butt. I saw how scared he
was and skinny and had hardly any hair!  The attendant told us that he would
growl and try to bite the workers when they went in to clean or feed.
I bent down and put my fingers thru the cage and he tried to get over to me...
but that other dog was still barking and nipping at him. He did get over to me
at one point, but only for a couple seconds before the other dog pushed him
off. I told the attendant I wanted to see him.

she asked us to go down the way and sit in the chairs and she would bring him
to us. She was carrying him, the she gave him to me. He was all over me, under
my chin, rolling around licking my face and happy to have someone to hold him.
I gave him to my daughter and he did the same thing to her. He never showed one
bit of aggression towards us at all. We signed the papers, and took him home.
The rest is history.

but I still think about that day he picked me to be his mom. He was in the
shelter about 2-3 weeks before we got him. Was it fate? Was it meant to be? Was
it God's Choice for me? for Ricky? I know this sounds dumb, but I just cant
stop thinking about it.
sorry for this long winded story that most of you already know.. I have
something new to be thankful for... MY RICKY!!
