She's a large dog and they are the first to be put down, usually within 3-5 days depending on how much room the shelter has. So if you can give her adequate shelter outside, then go for it. You can also call the rescues first.

What if they have been looking for her? They will not get in trouble since you said that she was picked up as a stray, unless they don't care and don't want her. I went to the local shelter today to see how many Chis were there 'cuz y'all were saying there were so many in the CA shelters. First, I'll tell you that there were four there. Thus she's never been alone and has always played with her dogmate. The shelter doesn't know this. So, How can I tell them the background of this dog without getting the owner in trouble.
