My oldest chi, Twiggy, doesn't lick. However, my younger chi, Jack, licks the inside of Twiggy's ear and face almost daily. I've asked the vet about this and she says he's just grooming her and it's a sign of friendship between the two of them. He licks me as well but not as much as he licks Twiggy. I've also seen her seek him out so that he can lick her ears.

Well when they were wolves the puppies came up to all the pack and licked them and that meant that they were hungry. It was the responsibility of the entire pack to feed the pups as they were the most important possesion that the pack owned. So when they licked them the pack (I think the males too) would regurgitate food into their mouths. Also, other mothers would nurse the puppies as a lot of the times the alpha male would kill the puppies that were not his. They wanted to make sure that the strong lived so that they could keep their breed alive. Now please this is just what I remember and I could have a few facts wrong, but you get the general idea.....but my chi's do not lick me they just kiss me LOL Let's pray that 2011 will be peaceful for all the world! To: [email protected] Date: Saturday, January 8, 2011, 3:16 PM I don't allow Emiliano to lick me. If he tries I tell him no lick and he stops. I have to remind him often but when I do, he does stop. Now, I am talking about the constant licking, if he gives me a lick when I pick him up, I kiss him back. I know its a kiss in greeting and its allowed but not the constant licking. Gloria
