Your story makes me want to cry, not for sadness, but joy... joy that this scared little sweet dog has a new wonderful home! My Ricky 4 years old, kinda went thru the same thing. He was an owner turn in for what ever reason i don't know. He was skin and bones when I saw him. He had been at the kennel for about 2-3 weeks. he was so tiny.. I almost missed seeing him in the cage. anyway, I was told he would growl and bite at the kennel people. I stooped down at the cage and Ricky tried to come over to me, but one of the other dogs in with him continued to bark and snap at him and drove him off. I asked to see him... in short, Ricky now is with me almost 5 months now. He is snappy, and has other problems, but we are working thru them. I will be getting him into training soon. found a trainer at petsmart who has seen Ricky before and said she can help him and me. so I hope to do that soon.

I wish you all the luck, and I know your little chi will soon bond with you!! keep us posted!

Maxwell is beautiful and I think eventually he will make a fine pet. Good Luck and thanks for taking a chance with him.

I just wanted to updated everyone on Maxwell my new chi.
As most of you know Maxwell was abandoned by hi owner after he went to prison. After who know how long a person used and live trap and took him to The Animal Welfare League. When they removed him from the trap he bit several workers and was titled a biter. They had him in a pen by himself for 11 months. He could not trust people and when they stop at his pen he put on the Cujo act and they walked by.
A friend of my that is involved with the rescue I am a foster for called me when she visited the facility. We try to always pull chi's. She said she had a little chi that I should come see. I told her with 10 I really didn't want or need another. She said you may not need him but he needs you. I decided to go see him! (nice to know you have friends)

I went to see Maxwell and he was terrified! He snapped, barked, scraped his feet on the floor and paced. I had a man bring him to the family room. He had been recently feeding him hotdogs and had started to work him over. So in the family room I sat on the floor coaxing him with treats. He took the treats and ran. But eventually he let me scratch his but for the longest time. I decided to apply to adopt him. No this was on Saturday. I knew he would not remember me so I wanted to expedite the process ASAP. My home inspection for the adoption was on Monday evening. I passed. They also contacted the vet and checked to make certain my license was current. I was approved and excited. Then the ice storm came, he had to wait. Finally I was able to go pick him up on Wednesday.

Well he had a very short memory. He would not take my treats and was so scared he pooped in is pen several times. So I tried to pick him up and place him in a carrier. Big MISTAKE. He nailed me drawling blood. I stuck my hand, bleeding and throbbing into a glove and got him in the carrier. He was scared to death.

I set up a x pen in the breakfast nook and placed the carrier inside opening the door. I just assumed he world bolt out. Surprise he didn't he stayed in and only came out overnight to drink potty and eat. So I figured this would take some time. I have plenty!
But I was pleasantly surprised this morning when I woke up and found Maxwell sitting on a pillow outside his carrier. I quietly picked up the carrier and removed it and just talked to him. He responded very well and I was able to snap a few pictures and within an hour he decided I could scratch his butt again. So our journey begins!

Thank you for reading Maxwell's story. I hope to be able to hold him and love on him soon.
