I took Desi to the breeder’s house about a month ago (the same day that I met Shanna) and she said that she has never seen any of the puppies get that big. I think that sometimes a hidden gene pops out once in a while.
Desi’s littermate brother came to visit when they were 4 months old…he was about an inch shorter than Desi when they were standing next to each other on the ground. There is some discrepancy in his registration with the NAPDA…when I bought him she said that the NAPDA made a mistake on the registration form and that Desi’s father’s name was something other than what was printed on the form. Then, when he was about 5 or 6 months old, I called the registry and they still had the other name in their database. I think that maybe the male she put on the registry was one that didn’t have the testicle genetic problem because the vet said that it was something that the father had to have, or the breeding of his two parents was too close… and therefore there would be a problem registering the litter because supposedly all her dogs are registered with the NAPDR and they might have their computer system that would not allow inbreeding. His brother was cute, too. He was very slender and he was blue where Desi is chocolate. She (the brother’s owner) went to my vet with me one time and Dr. Bullard examined him (it was a week after Desi was neutered) and first went to the testicle area…sure enough…he had the same genetic testicle thing which can choke off the artery or organs and if not removed it can also cause a really ugly huge cancer (per my vet). So, unless she had two males that had the same problem, they were probably 100% littermates. So, I think that either the mother or the father had a gene from generations back that was a larger, different looking, Chihuahua. Desi is cute, and I love him to death, but he just doesn’t look like he is 100% Chihuahua. I used to wonder if he might be part minpin or part mini doxie…and I saw a picture of a rat terrier and he sort of resembles that too. He is 17 months old and he is a live wire…always on the go, taking toys from Dolly just to take them across the room and lay them down and come back for more. Desi will give ANYONE kisses, kisses, kisses. Her mother was a large chi, probably 9-10lbs. Her father was I guess what some call a "deer", very long slendar legs tiny head. He looked just like Smidgen except he was a red color. I don't know where Dani got her color from, cause each pup in the litter was different. I am just use to my Smidgen that is 3.2lbs and Chassis 2.8lbs. Dani looks so big compared to them, but she really isn't a big dog.. I just took my two for flu shots on Monday. They said that Dolly weighs 8 lbs even (which I think is incorrect as she hasn’t gained a whole pound since the last time that I had her there) and Desi weighs 9.3 lbs. Desi has a long body and a big head Desi is a little shorter in height, about an inch shorter in length and she has a tiny head. So I was just wondering if she is tall or long. Not too many people have the bigger Chihuahuas like I have. I swore that Desi was not all Chihuahua for a long time…he didn’t grow evenly…he would grow up and then out and then up and then out. He has a very different looking face than Dolly, but I saw pictures on Wikipedia that show the original Chihuahuas to look much like him. The funny thing is that his parents were 4 ½ and 5 ½ lbs and he is almost the same weight as both of them put together. I guess I missed something? I hope all is good with everyone? I thought it seemed a bit quiet here today. ? Dani was quiet too this morning, she was laying up with the other two girls on my chair this morning which is not like her, she normally in the room with me in one of the little beds next to my makeup vanity. So I am sure she is still not feeling too good. Oh I did forget to tell everyone that Dani is 7.5lbs.. She was 1lb when I got her at 8 wks. I call her my moose...Okay all I hope things are okay..
