Hi Everyone,
I hope this email goes through, I have had nothing but problems since last
night, and today, and am hoping that it is now working okay.
I want to make it perfectly clear to everyone that I AM NOT AGAINST BREEDING
DOGS!
I am against PM breeders, BY breeders, and the average pet owner who knows
nothing about breeding any type of dog, and does it anyway. I am being breed
specific here, as their are too many Chi's in shelters and rescues.
I know that their are other people in this group that breed different types of
breeds and I am in no way against their breeding. It is just my opinion that
for right now, this world does not need more unwanted ''Pet Quality Chi's.''
As you all know there are over 12,000 Pet Quality Chi's on Petfinders who need
homes. Thousand and thousands
of these dogs will eventually be put down for lack of homes.
I personally feel that we do not need any one breeding these Types of Chi's and
bring more into the world and have no homes to place them into. I hope this
clears up any confusion on just my opinion on breeding Chi's.
What is a Back Yard Breeder? To mean it is a person, who usually breeds for a
little extra income. It is a person that does not have the welfare of the
animals in mind, but rather what they can make off of the animals. It is a
person who doesn't prepare themselves for the responsibility of what can happen
BEFORE they even start the breeding process. By that I mean, having enough
money set aside for Vet fees, in the event that the mother should get sick, or
need a cesarean, or the pups get sick. It is a person that usually doesn't have
their breeders UTD on shots so that the puppies will gain a natural immunity to
various dog virus's during gestation. It is a person who usually has pet
quality breeders and never took the time to find out their history so as to
ensure that bad traits and medical issues are not passed down to their puppies.
It is a person who is not breeding good quality dogs with the determination of
bettering the quality of the breed.
I am all for people who want to breed good quality Chi's to better the breed
and who are going to be responsible for the proper care of their breeders and
to whom they sell their puppies to. Even that can be tricky for the most
dedicated responsible breeder because then they have to be concerned that their
puppies are not going to be used as breeders once they are sold to the average
pet owner and therefore added to the population explosion of Chi's as well.
I know that their are responsible breeders out their. I have seen website's
where some breeders sell their puppies and have it in their contract that the
puppies have to be spayed/neutered when they are old enough or that the breeder
has a right to take the puppy back. I know of a couple of breeders who have
very strictly enforced their contract and didn't mind paying the extra expense
of lawyer fees to do so. These are the real die-hard breeders who's only
interest is for the dogs and not their wallets. The average pet owner couldn't
and wouldn't pay for the cost of their dogs, because they are very expensive
and all the stock derives from show quality, even though the puppies would not
make the grade to the show ring. However, the quality and health of the dogs
are very much to the standard.
These are the types of breeders that we need today, we do not need more 'pet
quality' below standard Chi's being bred, their are plenty of them on
Petfinders.
So, either you are a responsible breeder who only breeds true to the standard
and provides in every possible way for the well being of your stock, or you are
a PM, or you are a Backyard Breeder. These are the only three classifications
of breeders.
