Remember the story I told you all that on my trip to South Texas I found a
hand carved "Santo" with a dog at his side? I also told you I bought it
because I had never seen a saint figure with a dog (other than St.Francis).
So, I researched it on the internet and sure enough there is a saint with
dog. I found St. Roch, "the patron saint of dogs and of those who love
them". The legend is that St. Roch devoted himself to caring for victims of
the plague. He eventually got the disease and went alone into the forest
to die. There a dog came upon him, licked his wounds until they healed and
brought food to him. From that point on St. Roch always had his dog by his
side.
