It's the lesser of two evils...putting them under and hoping everything goes
okay, or not putting them under and letting the bacteria slowly make it's
way to consume their gums and jar and then to all their main organs and
eventually kill them. Tooth decay is serious stuff and if you have ever had
a tooth ache that is what the dog is feeling, even though you may not think
that they are in pain, they are.

If that was an adult tooth that came out then the root is still in her jaw.
The tooth merely rotted off at the top. She has to see a Vet and have it
taken out as well as the others that are bad and a tooth cleaning. She will
need an antibiotic and pain meds. They usually like to put the dog on the
antibiotic for 3-4 days before the surgery. Many Chis come out of it just
fine, and will act so much more lively once it is over. If you haven't had
her spayed yet they can do that at the same time, which is better then
putting them under again.

None of those chewy things have ever made a difference for any dogs that I
have had. But a good natural dry kibble dog food does make a difference in
preventing decay. If you are feeding her a Science Diet food which is corn
based instead of meat based, then that is part of the problem. Corn does not
contain the same nutrition that meat does for a carnivorous animal. Canned
food sticks to their teeth and doesn't wash off when they drink water like
dry kibble does.

So yes, she really does have to see a Vet, and I wouldn't put it off any
longer.

Subject: [Chihuahuas] My chihuahuas oral health is bad

Hi. I have a female chihuahua who is almost two and last night one of her
teeth fell out. I'm pretty sure it was one of her adult teeth. When I looked
at it I noticed that is was completely rotten and was covered in tartar. It
is impossible for me to brush her teeth, I feed her food from the vets that
is supposed to help clean her teeth and I give her chews for her teeth so I
have no idea why her teeth would be this way. I am very worried because I
don't want her to have to have an anesthetic to have her teeth removed. I
think a few more of her teeth are rotten and I am so worried because she is
so young. Does anybody have any advice?

Thanks.
