Welcome to the group. You will hear many opinions as far as food. My oldest, Dolly, who just turned three was on Nutro when she was a puppy and after the first month she was having horrible colitis and had to be on Science Diet ID canned mixed with a little puppy food. When she was old enough for adult dog food, I read that Royal Canin had a money back guarantee, and my main goal was to get her to eat and not have colitis again. I started her on the Royal Canin Chihuahua food and she has thrived. She has not had colitis again.
I got my male, Desi Lou, in October of 2009. He was a little chunker at 8 weeks old because the breeder let all the puppies free feed. I was very pleased with Royal Canin and Dolly, so I put him on Royal Canin Babydog and and then Royal Canin mini puppy. He did well also, except he still had too much fat, so at four months, the vet had me switch him to Royal Canin Chihuahua also. He has not had any stomach problems (except when we were at a neighbor's house and he ate almost all the dog food they had out for their dog.LOL). Both are thriving; the vet said to not change a thing. Some people on this group feed raw; some feed home made. My dogs would be severely malnourished if they had to depend on me to cook their food.LOL So, dogs are like people.they all do not like the same food. You need to find what works best for your little one. Have a little guidance from your vet if you feel that you need it. My success story is not the success story of many others. From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Krystal Sent: Saturday, May 28, 2011 7:12 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [Chihuahuas] Need Advice On Food I recently was given my first Chi. This is the first time I have ever had a Chi and she is my only dog as well. I have had her for three days and I am in love!!! I had no idea how wonderful these dogs are. She is a black and tan apple head, and her name is Charlemagne. We thought she was a boy when we named her that but I still love the name anyway. Anyway she is about 3 or 4 months I think. I'm not for sure yet. My question is what is the best kind of food to feed her. I have heard some awful stories about what goes into tradtional packaged dog food and I want the best for her. So far she hates the food that was given to me when I took her in, she wont touch, she just wants table food. But I know I need to make sure she is healthly so what is the best food to feed my new baby?
