Emiliano was like that and sometimes still is.  I have found that what  
works best is if the "stranger" just ignores him, he'll stop barking.  He's  
still leery and will watch the person carefully but he will stop barking.
As I socialize him to more and more persons, he is getting better about it  
but still would not win a Mr. Congeniality title.

My dog has anthrophobia, which is a fancy way of saying she's  afraid of 
people. Not all people. She loves the ones she knows, like me,  but if a maid
