In Germany they eat Tar Tar which is raw hamburger; some people eat sushi…those people are OK and healthy. Some people never eat that stuff and are healthy.
In dogs…at least the Chihuahuas in this group…every one is doing good on what they are eating. No one is feeding their dog poison; just a different kind of food than someone else may be feeding. I don’t think it matters much for all of us what our dogs are eating…what matters is that what we are feeding them is something that they eat and thrive on. End of story, end of subject. I will admit that I would not want to give Dolly & Desi raw meat; I feed them kibble and sometimes when Dolly goes through a little episode of not eating – and low blood sugar – I will give her some NutraCal and then add a little canned or pouch food mixed with some Pedialyte. I give her the Nutracal and put the food in her area. She lays there about 10 or 15 minutes and then gets up and eats like she hasn’t in a year. I have seen Desi eating bugs on the patio…loves the crickets! That is not what I would choose to feed him, but he does it if I can’t be close enough to stop him. I would like to give them a bone/chicken wing/neck as a treat to help keep their teeth clean. Someone said on here before that they gave their Chi's the second part of the wing, not the tip portion, frozen? I still worry about one of my boys swallowing too large a piece. Any advice? We feed 80% raw meat, 10% non weight bearing bone (e.g. No cow femurs, or any legs of ruminating animals because they can cause blockage and tooth breakage) 5% organ 5% liver Normally you feed a very large meaty bone that they can't possibly swallow whole and take it away when they have had enough. A dog can eat every part of a chicken....feathers, feet, head and most differently skin. But that being said to much skin can cause the runs....remember it's a ratio thing Rebecca Sent from my iPhone On Oct 30, 2011, at 1:54 PM, Susanne Defoe <[email protected]> wrote: How big of a portion should Chi's get though? I have always been told--no chicken bones and would never do that--I brush my chis teeth with doggie toothpaste and brush or tak my fingers and massage the gums. Just my opinion. Okay, is that safe? I worry about broken sharp points on the bones. I’ve always gotten big beef bones for them to chew on, but they could not break the bones.
